    Location​

    Papua New Guinea or PNG as it is often known by is one of the most beautiful, rugged and remote places on this earth. If there is a possibility of a group of people not have seen a westerner PNG is probably the place where that is the case. The fly river is the 25th largest river on earth. Think about that for a second… With all of those incredible European and American rivers PNG  has got one of the biggest.  Measuring over 1000 km in length that starts in the rugged star mountains crossing the southwestern low lands of the western province before the hitting the bay of Papua. A river mouth 64KM wide… now that’s a river

    Add to that the worlds best and arguably the hardest fighting freshwater sports fish on earth the PNG black bass. Anyone that hasn’t actually tangled with a monster black bass might think you ridiculous when you say that you use 80lb braid and £100lb, leader. Yes, you read correctly the same set up that you would use the target monster GT. The fly river in PNG is the place to be for monster black bus and monster barramundi.I

    Location Species  

    Black Bass:  If Barramundi is the Hollywood of tropical sports fish then black bass is the Bronx of tropical Sportsfishing. If you do not have your drag totally locked and a great fishing guide the chances of getting your black bass into the boat are less than zero. I before you realise what happened you are wondering what just happened.  Any fish that has a nickname the guardian of hell is worth tangling with. 

    Barramundi,   I remember the first time I spoke to a fishing guide from the fly river and he didn’t realise that the barramundi bread in the small rivers that we had in Australia. He may have been a little tongue in cheek but the point he was trying to make is that when you catch a couple of 70lb barramundi and you can comment on where is the best place to catch them.

    Mangrove Jack,  how exciting is it when you get smashed by a jack as it heads back into its snag.  Not as big as their cousins but still who would call a mangrove jack a bycatch.  

    Fishing

    Can you think of a location in Australia or indeed the world where there’s a pretty good chance that your rod and reel are not going to make it back in working order? PNG black bass and the PNG barramundi in the fly river are some of the biggest on earth. You have the chance to fish hundreds and hundreds of kilometres of almost unfished waterways.     The black bass is typically found hanging around deep timber or indeed timber close to the river bank. Surprisingly monster fish will also be found waiting to ambush their prey reeds on the edge of the main river. The Fly River is surrounded by massive unspoiled floodplains creating a similar seamlessly endless source of food for the black bass and barramundi don’t forget the mighty Saratoga.
