    Heralded as one of the best fishing destinations in Australia, the remote Cobourg Peninsula is only an hour’s flight from Darwin. Cobourg Fishing Safaris offer accommodated (fly-in/fly-out) fishing charters from Cobourg Coastal Camp. Catering for a maximum of just two fishing groups at a time they offer a very exclusive fishing experience.

    Our team of tour guides are all highly trained, knowledgeable, attentive and professional individuals who are committed to providing the highest possible standard of customer service. We regard our guides as the backbone of the company. Their knowledge of the local area, their attention to safety, and their ability to make sure everyone in the group has a fantastic day on the water have been paramount to our continued success.

     

    Let us take care of everything! From flights to fishing gear, it’s all included. Our goal is to take responsibility away from our guests and make each and everyone’s experience as relaxing as possible. Our fishing packages include everything besides you luggage. We offer charter flights to and from Cobourg Coastal Camp, pickups and drop-offs, accommodation, private fishing charters with all equipment provided, meals, drinks and expert fishing guides.

     

    Location Species  

    Barramundi,  The Hollywood of Australian sportfish the Barramundi goes from being a great sports fish to one of the best once it gets into the 80cm range. Arnhemland has some of the best barramundi fishing on this earth and the Arnhemland Coastal Camp is perfectly located to take advantage of this barra fishing.   

    Mangrove Jack,  how exciting is it when you get smashed by a jack as it heads back into its snag. Just think how good chasing Jacks on the reef!

    Black Jewfish,  Pound for pound Black Jewfish smash just about any fishing out of the river!

    Queenfish,  the Cirque du Soleil performer of the sports fishing world.  

    Threadfin Salmon,  nothing like their northern hemisphere namesake these fish are aggressive and fish as hard as any tropical superstar.   

    Fingermark,  much like their cousin the mangrove jack

    GT (Giant Trevally), GT are also been referred to as being the gangsters of the reef. No matter if travelling in a group or individually they are on a mission and it is the mission of feeding as well as smashing the spirits of any accomplished sports fisho. recently encountered some feeding fish working the edge of a drop-off and in true GT style 50 minutes later. The angular released the fish and then put the rod in the rod rack sat down for a rest. No person ever tangled with the 40+ kilogram fish and then immediately cast again.

    Coral Trout, When it comes time to catching dinner there are few better fish. The coastal/beach reefs around the island hold trout up to 12lb not bad off the beach!!

    Spanish Mackeral, The Vincent van Gogh of saltwater fly sports fishing. These are a beautiful looking fish that make you earn your reward. Fast powerful and dirty fighters. 

    Barracuda,  They come in two sizes up in our parts. Small and annoying and massive followed by a Holly Crap!!  

    Northern Bluefin Tuna, For those of you that have never seen 400 yards of backing strip off your fly line in 30 seconds, this is the fish for you! Not a lot around in November but that’s good we want you fishing for the fish below.

    The Cobourg Peninsula is one of Australia’s best, and most untouched, fishing spots. The perfect boys trip for you and the lads, or an adventurous couples getaways, our Cobourg fishing safaris offer an unforgettable experience.

    Whether it’s the mangrove-lined creeks, or the bay’s pinnacles and headlands and coral reefs, the diversity of the area means there’s something for every fisherman.

    We regularly catch

    • Barramundi & mangrove jack
    • Spanish mackerel, queenfish and cobia
    • Golden snapper, coral trout, saddle tail snapper
    • Giant trevally, stripeys, red emperor and cod

     

    Location Facilities 

    Operating from mid-April through to mid-November the camp caters for a maximum of just two fishing groups at any one time, ensuring a very personalised fishing experience. 

    A large undercover, the open-air dining area is where meals are served. This is complemented by a small lounge area which is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the serenity after a big days fishing.  

    Permanent canvas safari-tents provide comfortable nights’ accommodation. The tents are strategically arranged along the cliff top overlooking the water. Each tent is twin-share and contains 2 single beds (all linen is included), a bedside table, light and fan.

    There are 3 outdoor monsoonal hot water showers and 3 eco-friendly (& odourless) toilets all have fantastic views of the surrounding bushland.

    Each evening sunset nibbles are served on the cliff top; the perfect vantage point to watch the sunset over the bay. Dinners of a high standard are prepared in the camp kitchen nightly and incorporate you freshly caught fish, fresh vegetables and a variety of local produce.

    We offer the most personalised and professional fishing experience in the Top End. Over the years we have acquired special permission by traditional landowners of the Cobourg Peninsula to operate fishing tours throughout the Marine Park. Adding to this, we have also been granted permission to operate a small fishing camp on the shores of Port Essington, Cobourg Peninsula. It is here we offer a unique experience for visitors to stay at our Cobourg Coastal Camp catering for only one or two fishing groups at a time. This exclusive experience gives you the opportunity to explore the region in solitude while experiencing some of the best blue water and barramundi fishing in Australia. Permits for the park are heavily regulated meaning you will never be part of a crowd.

    Additional activities to fishing can include:

    • Victoria Settlement ruins walk
    • Beachcombing or bushwalking
    • Bird watching on the world first RAMSAR wetlands
    • Visiting the Parks Cultural and Information Centre
    • Mud crabbing
    • Shucking fresh oysters off the rocks 
    • Relaxing at camp in hammocks overlooking the ocean

    Meals & Drinks

    Every meal is prepared by our resident cook, who takes delight in exceeding your culinary expectations. Our mouth-watering meals are not complicated, but the quality of the food will have you feeling as though you were being served at a 5-star restaurant. We understand that you are not escaping the hustle and bustle of the real world to then encounter complicated food.

    All meals and non-alcoholic drinks are provided on your fishing trip. Meals are expertly prepared by our chef using fresh ingredients and, of course, the days catch. Premium cuts of red meat also feature on the menu.

We will work with you to make sure that your budget and time limitations are taken into account and the best route there and of course the best route home.
