    FishingEarth Quick Facts

    Cape York Hyperspace Sports Fishing

One of the most exciting aspects for the early explorers was the chance to be the first one to sight, set foot on, or name a new found land. And that’s what the Fishing Heaven on Cape York Peninsulafishing charter offers you. With seven nights and seven days of live aboard fishing the Western Cape York Peninsula you’ll fish rivers seldom visited, creeks untouched by human hand and snags that have never seen a lure or fly and which are chocked full of Barramundi and Mangrove Jacks.

Your adventure will begin in Cairns, where you’ll awake to a big brekkie and a short trip to the airport for an early flight to Aurukun. Make sure you get a window seat so you can look out over the wonders of the Cape as you fly up.

You’ll arrive in Aurukun at 10.00, where you will be met and transferred to your floating home for the week. Within one hour of touching down in Aurukun you will be on your way to the mouth of the Archer River, where you’ll meet your guide and head out on your first fishing adventure, targeting Barramundi, Jacks, Queenfish and Trevally.

Your first night on the mothership will be an experience you’ll never forget. The food is incredible, with plentiful Mud Crabs, whole baked Mangrove Jacks and delicious Barramundi fillets. Looking out over a perfect sunset with a glass of wine or a cold beer is the perfect end to your first day of fishing, and is just the start of a love affair with fishing in Northern Tropical Australia.

As the sun rises the next morning, feel free to get up and out early to toss a few poppers off the back of the boat. Or make yourself a cup of coffee and sit and watch the sun rise over the Cape York Peninsula. You’ll then enjoy a full breakfast, which you’ll certainly need ahead of a full on day of fishing!

You and your guide can discuss the areas and types of fishing you want to do and the types of fish you’d like to catch over brekkie. During these five days you’ll be fishing the Archer River area which is as vast as it is varied.

There are a number of rivers that empty into Archer Bay, including the Archer, Watson, and Ward rivers. You’ll also have the opportunity to make your way well up the Archer River where you can cast for the beautiful, prehistoric Saratoga.

Just 8 miles south of your location is the Love River, which opens up into a huge salt water lake area inside the mouth of the river. This offers superb estuary fishing for not only Barramundi and Jacks but also for Threadfin Salmon, Trevally, Finger Mark and lure and fly crunching Cod. And those of you looking for a challenge on fly, the Milk Fish is found in numbers in this area.

To the North you’ll find beaches as far as the eye can see, abundant with Trevally, Queenfish, Barramundi and Permit. Off the beaches you’ll find all the Pelagic action you can handle!! Tuna, Spanish Mackerel and house sized Trevally along with Queenfish, which are spectacular in their aerial display when caught.

The locations and fishing times are dependent on the tides. Your guide will discuss this with you and make sure you are not fishing for fishing’s sake. A day’s fishing usually ends with the light of the day, but again this will depend on whether the fish are biting. If there is a prime tide around dark you WILL get to fish.

Of course all good things must come to an end, and on your final day, like all the other days, you’ll be up before the sun. As you drink your tea, watching the sun rise over the Cape for the last time of this trip you will being thinking about your return to this spot.

After breakfast you will fish ’til 09.30 and then steam to catch your 11.30 flight to Cairns. This will have you back in Cairns around 13.00. This last mornings fishing remember to take the time to take in the sights and sounds of the area. Take your last cast and make it the best of the trip. The memories, sights and sounds of this trip will help you in the year ahead!

    The Jewel Reef Experience

Are you looking for a reason to get fit? A monster GT or two maybe a Dogtooth or a Spaniard or 20 . There is something amazing about fishing the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef… the fish just seem bigger and the water clear and clear.  Popper fishing for Coral Trout in 2 feet  of water or jigging for deep water trout and reds is never going to get old.  Get up before the dawn for a crack at an early morning GT or Spaniard  maybe a Coral Trout for breakfast  Then in the afternoon you will have the option of getting the game rods out and having a crack at some light/heavy game fishing. Once you see a 600lb plus Marlin peel line off your shimano 130 set at 45 kg of drag faster and longer than anything you have seen before, you will be figuratively and metaphorically speaking HOOKED!!

    The Location

Why not you will sit back and admire the world before your next cast out on to the waters of the Great Barrier Reef in search of the elusive 100 pounds of rampaging-unforgiving Jewel Reef GT.

ust because we can we will target other line peeling tropical sports fishing superstars like northern bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna maybe some mahi-mahi… There is the sushi me fish for the evening what about some nice Spanish mackerel or are the absolute speedster of the ocean wahoo fillets for the barbecue. That is not to mention that you are going to be fishing in some of the best light tackle and heavy tackle game fishing waters of the world. One never says no to a Sailfish or a black marlin or three.   There is absolutely nothing like watching line peel off your stella fishing reel and anyone of the above topical sports fishing superstars do their best to smoke you in the hazardous tropical reefs that you are fishing in.

    THE FISHING

If you want to catch a 10lb wild brown trout, you get to the backcountry in New Zealand. If you want to catch a 400lb arapaima, you head to the wilds of South America. Maybe you want to catch a 100lb tarpon then it’s off to Florida you go. This is big barramundi country and your guide for the next week will work to get you in tune with targeting these monsters. The first morning that I fished the Liverpool River many moons ago I caught an 87 cm an 88 cm and indeed an 89 cm barramundi dropping fish well over a metre all week as my excitement had me slightly out of tune with the big fish.

It is not just the Liverpool River that you will have access to.

You will have unfettered exclusive access to a number of pristine Arnhem Land rivers the Liverpool ff course, Tomkinson, Mann and Goomadeer) plus several coastal creeks and estuaries. The remote and extensive waterways in this Arnhem Land region have a well-earned reputation for offering some of the best barra fishing in the world.

You will primarily target the famous barramundi but you will most likely encounter a number of other saltwater estuary species such as threadfin and blue salmon, mangrove jack and black jewfish. Venturing offshore, golden snapper, coral trout, bluebone, queenfish, Spanish mackerel, broad-barred mackerel, longtail tuna, giant trevally, golden trevally, cobia, and that icon sportfish the giant herring are abundant in the warm tropical waters that adjoin the Arnhem Land coast. There may also be opportunities for freshwater fishing for barramundi, tarpon and saratoga.

    MEALS

Every meal is prepared by their resident cook, who takes delight in exceeding your culinary expectations. Their mouth-watering meals are not complicated, but the quality of the food will have you feeling as though you were being served at a 5 star restaurant. We understand that you are not escaping the hustle and bustle of the real world to then encounter complicated food.

    BOATS

Arnhem Land Barramundi Nature Lodge operates a fleet of eight ‘state of the art’ OceanMaster vessels. These unsinkable (don’t think Titanic) and super stable vessels are the ultimate when it comes to fishing remote Top End waters. The boats have the ability to cut through choppy waters with ease and offer the most stable platform available for barramundi fishing.  They have the  latest Lowrance SideScan and StructureScan fish-finding technology and navigation equipment. All boats  have been fitted with the latest Minn Kota I-Pilot electric motors for the ultimate in stealth fishing. Boats are fitted with VHF Marine radios, satellite telephones and a full safety kit with EPIRB emergency locating beacons. Insect repellent, sunscreen, first-aid kits and rain jackets are also carried on all our boats.

Long story short superb boats to fish out of even if you have a group of three.

    THE LODGE

One of the biggest changes to the operation is the quality of the lodge. Gone are the days of the bucket being beside the toilet and fans and other electrical devices not working. This is as good as fishing lodge accommodation gets. In early 2015 Outback Spirit purchased the Arnhem Land Barramundi Lodge with consent from the traditional owners. A major redevelopment included the construction of 12 brand new safari suites, on the Mitchell Plateau. The restaurant features a large deck and boasts sensational views, the perfect vantage point for a magical sunset over the Tomkinson River floodplains. There in-house chef will prepare freshly caught Barramundi, so be sure to catch a few to bring back!

Oh and don’t forget the Barramundi Bar is located on the shaded front deck together with additional outdoor seating and dining for up to 24. The bar is stocked with a selection of quality wines and beer that are available for purchase while soft drinks are complimentary.
