Long Reef Blue Water Fishing Adventure

Location

With virtually unlimited reef, sand flats, and underwater channels, we are truly blessed with a vast number of untouched saltwater territory. With no known visitors apart from the Sport Fishing PNG team, the destinations are untouched. Labeled as the premier saltwater destination in the world, you will not be disappointed.

Papua New Guinea is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It encompasses the eastern half of New Guinea, the world’s second largest island; the Bismarck Archipelago (New Britain, New Ireland, the Admiralty Islands, and several others); Bougainville and Buka (part of the Solomon Islands chain); and small offshore islands and atolls. The national capital, Port Moresby, is located in southeastern New Guinea on the Coral Sea.

Due to its tropical location, the country offers 2 main fishing seasons; the Wet and the Dry. Avoiding the South-Easterly winds during the Wet season (December – May), we head out to sea targeting our beloved Giant Trevally, Dogtooth Tuna, and other reef and pelagic species. During the Dry season (June – November), when the rivers are at their lowest levels, we head into the most remote river spots to target the PNG Black Bass and Barramundi. Having 2 main seasons, we are lucky to be able to fish year-round.

GT (Giant Trevally), GT are also been referred to as being the gangsters of the reef. No matter if travelling in a group or individually they are on a mission and it is the mission of feeding as well as smashing the spirits of any accomplished sports fisho. recently encountered some feeding fish working the edge of a drop offAndIn true GT style50 minutes laterThe angular released the fish and then put the rod in the rod rack sat down for a rest. No person ever tangled with the 40+ kilogram fish and then immediately cast again.

Coral Trout, When it comes time to catching dinner there are few better fish. The coastal/beach reefs around the island hold trout up to 12lb not bad off the beach!! Once you get out in the deep water their size is almost limitless.

Spanish Mackeral, The Vincent van Gogh of saltwater fly sports fishing. These are a beautiful looking fish that make you earn your reward. Fast powerful and dirty fighters. 

Barracuda,  They come in two sizes up in our parts. Small and annoying and massive followed by a Holly Crap!!  

Northern Bluefin Tuna, For those of you that have never seen 400 yards of backing strip off your fly line in 30 seconds, this is the fish for you! Not a lot around in November but that’s good we want you fishing for the fish below.

Wahoo, I am sure that when someone shouts out ‘wahoo I won’ It is the description of the fish in that every time you encounter one of these Sports fishing superstars they give you a run for your money.

Yellowfin Tuna, An absolute embarrassment of richersIt’s how you would describeYellow fin tuna. They are spectacular looking nd as fast and aggressive as any other fish. They also just happened to be one of the best eating on this earth.

Dogtooth Tuna, so you think you can dance (I mean fish)?? This is the fish that test everyone that a lucky enough to encounter the majestically powerful wolf of the Coral Sea. If you thought GT to be dirty fighters then you are about to be re-educated… or at least shown that the GT is not the only one with tricks up its sleeve. This is the fish to log your drag up and hope that everything goes well.

Napoleon Wrasse, As pretty as a BlueMountain butterfly and most certainly stings more than a bee. An absolutely superb fighting fish thatWe’ll keep fighting to the very top and when well looked after releases safely and healthily to fight another day

Safety and maximum satisfaction is our top priority during our expedition, and to safeguard this the vessel is fitted with the state of art navigation and communication equipment in each tender and latest marine engineering technology Enjoy live aboard comfort with 4 deluxe cabins (twin share), 2 x Staterooms with ensuite bathrooms to accommodate just 8 anglers.
