WildCard FishingEarth Fishing Adventure tackle guide
Like most destinations, wildcard has all of the gear that you need.
They have been fishing up there for a long time and they know what catches fis
We love to buy fishing gear even if we have the same thing in 10 different colours it just seems to be the colour that we think will catch fish.
Wildcard has that gear on board already
This is only a recommendation or maybe an information sheet. See it as you will. No matter where I go, I always take some of my favourite things. If I’m spending $5000 or $10,000 on a fishing trip, it’s not hard to justify spending a couple of hundred bucks on good, proven fish-catching lures/vibes/jigs, etc.
Most importantly of all, I get no kickback from anyone to do with recommendations like this. I only use BCF as they are a national store that does their online delivery process efficiently. Also, they are pretty good at sorting out a refund or a return if anything fails.
I’m not going to fill this page with fish photos either… That’s your job to catch the fish. These are just the extra things that I would consider taking.
VIBES
How frustrating were they when they first came out!! Everyone on the TV shows caught fish faster than they could get into the water. The thing I like about vibes is that you are always in the game. As soon as it is in the water, you have a chance of getting your dream fish. I can’t emphasise enough about concentrating on the drop watch your line! The two biggest GT I’ve seen caught on big vibes were on the drop.
I’m talking 108 cm and 115 cm GT

I have to honestly say that when it comes to the colours of vibes in salt water I’ve not found there to be much of a difference. Personally, I go for colours that I like. These things are worth their weight in gold.
Just for a second, totally ignore what I said above about colours. Coral trout are my favourite fish on the Great Barrier Reef. They just are the ultimate in sports fish to me. They fight hard. They are as good as anything in the ocean to eat, and when treated well, they release fantastically. Don’t forget to have a look at this style as well (Fusilier). I’ve yet to find a fish that doesn’t love chomping fuzzies! I’ve not heard of any vegan fish yet.

We’ve been doing this for 12 years, and the one thing I’ve learnt is that I know so much less than I thought. The knowledge base out there amongst commercial, professional and recreational fisho is extraordinary. The one thing that the old crew never argue about is these poppers for big TG and big trout.

These ones are NOT cheap, but they do a wicked job. Check your knots, as 50 bucks are 50 bucks.
Some things just seem to work. One of the game boat skippers up at Lizard Island got me onto these (thanks, Brutus). He said if things get a bit quiet, chuck a few of these out. His words were you won’t catch monster fish, but you will get lots of good fish. Given that he is chasing thousand pound Marlin, I’m happy to avoid them and get some good macs, GT and Trout Nomad DTX Minnow Hard Body Lure 14cm F
Before we all need to go to the bank and get a loan to buy all of this gear, I’m going to jump out of this guide with my all-time favourite lure. If I had to take one lure with me to catch dinner anywhere in northern Australia, this is it.
The original Gold Bomber GOLD GOLD and only GOLD
I could go on and on and on and on
There is so much literature out there, and depending on the person’s sponsorship and/or budget, you get as much information as you can possibly digest. The most expensive is not necessarily the best and often, neither is the cheapest.
For those that I lucky and don’t have a budget, then go hard and pack your bags nice and full.
Always happy to answer any questions via email if you want to know more about the fishing in the area.
