Haggerstone Island: A Paradise on Earth

How do you find that location different from the world we are typically drawn to? Locations like the Seychelles are spectacular, there is no doubt. A private Fijian Island is never really going to disappoint, is it? But they are the same same.

Back to my question, how do you find a different location that still has all the things you need to recharge your battery and have a holiday that will have you talking about and dreaming about for many years after your visit?

The only way that I have found these locations in 15 years of running an adventure travel business is to take a risk and visit something a little further from your comfort zone than you would typically look at.

To answer my question, you find that location by visiting a place like Haggerstone Island.  Or, indeed, is  Haggerstone Island answering your question?

    Haggerstone Island

    Local Seafood

Amazing food cooked with love and care

One thing this world is not short of, and  that is fancy restaurants serving ingredients from around this magnificent earth that we live on. Imagine what it’s like eating food you have most likely caught, or someone staying on the island with you has caught for dinner each evening. To be sure, there will be ingredients imported from other locations, but as much as possible, everything comes from within eyesight of the island.

When you take incredible local ingredients, cooked with a combination of generation after generation, ideas and flare, you get meals that will genuinely be the ones that you crave most when talking with friends about some of your best meals ever.

    Lets go swimming

Haggerstone Island is an amazing location for people of all ages and interests. It is a great place to relax, enjoy nature’s beauty, or embark on an adventure. Here are some tips for planning a trip to Haggerstone Island:

If you are looking for an amazing vacation destination, consider Haggerstone Island. It is a paradise on Earth, with something to offer everyone.

As one of Australia’s most remote and private island resorts, Haggerstone offers an unparalleled adventure experience individually tailored to every guest.

Custodians Roy and Anna Turner have put thirty years of their lives into extending the beauty of the island with everything they have created. Individually designed lodges blend seamlessly along the island foreshore; each private villa has its own pristine beachfront and sea view. The main building captures the imagination: heavy beams, high thatched roof, light flickering from the cooking fire. At the ocean, a thatched jetty hovers over a lagoon that vibrates with fish life.

Every day, a new adventure awaits, with tailored excursions allowing guests to experience activities such as fishing, snorkelling, spearfishing and beach combing, to name but a few.

WHETHER ITS SNORKELLING OVER CORAL GARDENS, FISHING FOR GIANT RED EMPEROR OR FLYING OVER WATERFALLS, A TAILORED ADVENTURE AWAITS YOU ON HAGGERSTONE ISLAND

All daily adventures on our 45ft Jet Boat are included in the accommodation cost, as well as equipment, Jetski use etc.

    SNORKELLING

Every day out on the boat, we visit a different destination and often will not repeat the same location within a month or even a year. Some of our favourite snorkelling locations we have named:

    • The Garden – A shallow and brilliantly coloured, vivid-coloured staghorn, plate, boulder and fan corals.
    • Ashmore Banks – A beautiful sand cay with an incredibly clear fringing reef and deep drop-off, Maori Wrasse, huge Brain Coral formations and the possibilities of Manta Rays, Crayfish and even Dolphins.
    • The Outer Barrier Wishbone Reef – On calm days, we venture out to the incredible outer reef formation located east of the island. Expect to see every imaginable form of marine life in its most impressive condition.

    SPEARFISHING

With Haggerstone’s remote location comes unparalleled numbers of fish and crayfish. All levels of spear-fishermen can enjoy the abundant reefs in our area. All equipment is provided, and coaching for beginners is always near at hand. Some of the species often caught are Crayfish, Coral Trout, Fingermark and Spanish mackerel.

MINUTES FROM THE OCEAN TO YOUR PLATE

Our cuisine focuses heavily on the abundance of first-class seafood pulled from the ocean that is our backyard. The seafood we eat is almost always caught on the day, and fruit and vegetables come organically grown in our orchard.

WHAT IS NOT CAUGHT IS GROWN

Papaya, banana, grapefruit and passion fruit are picked fresh from our orchard. Freshly toasted coconut flavours the homemade muesli. The eggs are the produce of free-roaming chickens, and the salad is a mix of flourishing rocket and local vegetables with origins in New Guinea.

    SEAFOOD YOU HAVE CAUGHT YOURSELF

If you are a keen fisher or spearfisherman, most of the seafood you eat will most likely be caught by you, and always on the same day.

SUSTAINABILITY IS A WAY OF LIFE

At Haggerstone, we only keep as much as we need to eat, and most of our daily catch is released. This also preserves our fishing and spearfishing locations, ensuring every visitor has an exceptional experience.

A WHOLE ISLAND ALL TO YOURSELF..

For guests wanting the ultimate private island experience, we offer whole-island bookings for groups up to 12 people. Booking the entire island allows us to cater entirely to your needs with daily adventures and dining experiences.

    AN ENTIRELY PERSONALISED EXPERIENCE

Booking the whole island exclusively to your group allows us to focus heavily on a particular interest, whether that be snorkelling, fishing, relaxing or any of the many experiences our region offers.

NOT ONLY AN ISLAND TO YOURSELVES BUT AN ENTIRE UNINHABITED STRETCH OF AUSTRALIA’S COASTLINE

Spend the evening enjoying sunset drinks or a moonlit dinner on our jetty. Dance around a beach bonfire or experience a traditional Tahitian Hungy, where prime cuts of five different local meats are wrapped in banana leaves and cooked underground for 8 hours. With an exclusive whole island booking, you can take your pick, or do it all.
