    The Location

Befitting its ideal location, the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious. There are no pre-set itineraries here. You set the pace and can be as active or laid back as you like. Spend your days fishing for the fabled Barramundi and dozens of other tropical species in the pristine azure waters the area is famous for. Discover intriguing Wandjina and Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw) rock art which has been part of this landscape and the lives of its traditional owners for thousands of years.

You may prefer to take it easy on the boat, cruising and picnicking on deserted islands fringed by boab trees, or sipping a cool drink from the day bed. The choices are yours. Kimberley Coastal Camp is a place for the heart and soul, limiting guests to just 16, creating an intimate atmosphere while reducing the impact on this fragile environment. When we say we’re isolated and pristine – we mean it.

With no pre set itineraries and a huge expanse of water to explore, a day’s fishing at Kimberley Coastal Camp is sure to impress. Together with your guide, plan your day according to the tides and your preferences.

Unlike most other fishing camps, Kimberley Coastal Camp is located right on the water, so there is no need to travel 50km before even launching the boat. Fish all day every day or maybe after a morning’s fishing take your catch ashore on a deserted island fringed by Boab trees and have your host and guide cook it for you. Spend some time plucking succulent mud crabs from the mangrove lined creeks and have the chef prepare them to your liking for the evening’s meal.

Kimberley Coastal Camp operates on a catch and release basis with only those fish destined for the table retained from the day’s catch. We promote sustainable fishing methods at all times.

    FishingEarth Quick Facts

    Target Species

The benchmark in remote location tropical sportsfishing, Kimberley Coastal Camp is situated right on the edge of the pristine waters of the Admiralty Gulf in the far north Kimberley region of Western Australia, considered one of the best fishing regions in Australia.

Even by Kimberley standards, Kimberley Coastal Camp is isolated. With access limited to helicopter and float plane, and numbers kept to a minimum, fishing here is for the privileged few.

    Species

Fish these abundant waters for Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Fingermark, Mulloway (Northern Black Jew Fish), Threadfin Salmon, Giant Trevally, Spanish Mackerel, Tuna, Queen Fish, Coral Trout, Blue Bone and numerous other tropical species.
In one day it is possible to catch everything from Barramundi to Blue Bone to Blue Fin Tuna.

    Fishing Conditions

Huge tidal rivers together with mangrove lined creeks, estuaries, flats, offshore reefs and islands as well as blue water, ensure an exciting variety of fishing options. Kimberley Coastal Camp is one of very few fishing destinations in Australia able to offer such diverse options to the keen angler.

    Charter Operation Dates

Kimberley Coastal Camp is open Wet Season or Dry Season; all year round.

KCC is an ideal destination to just get away from it all. Unwind from the comforts of the day bed or by the pool. Nature is all around, you don’t even have to leave the sun lounge to admire sea eagles, brahminy kites, whistling kites, and maybe even a cheeky dingo.

If our great fishing is a major attraction for you then speak to us regarding tides. We have all the details so just ask.

The best Barra fishing is traditionally during the wet season, up until June then the middle of September as the weather warms up. However, we catch the elusive barra right through the season, with still an abundance of mulloway, mangrove jack, fingermark, javelin fish, threadfin salmon (giant and blue), giant, golden and spotted trevally, queen fish, mackerel, tuna, coral trout, cod & bluebone.

For those that prefer bushwalking and rock art, the months of June to early August are ideal as the days are cooler and less humid. As the water holes start to dry up, birds concentrate around the remaining water bodies, making for spectacular bird watching.

Late-March to mid-May is still quite warm with temperatures sitting around the mid 30’s. Our freshwater billabong has water in it until mid-May each year and is a lovely walk with an inviting swim at the end of it. The temperatures start to increase again from mid-August and can become quite hot by October. Our pool offers a refreshing dip at the end of a long day.

    Packages

Kimberley Coastal Camp is not your average fishing camp.  We like to think of ourselves more as a, “barefoot resort” offering something for everyone.

At Kimberley Coastal Camp, we cater your holiday to suit you.  For those who may not necessarily be into fishing all day we offer a range of activities, although we do encourage you to also try your hand at catching your lunch, we don’t think you will be disappointed.  A typical day on the water would see you having a couple of hours of easy fishing, (we promise that you won’t even have to touch the bait).  After your exciting catch, we will find a glorious deserted island where you will be treated to a delicious  glass of wine or bubbles while your fish is expertly filleted and cooked for you to enjoy with gourmet salads.  Have a swim, go beach combing or just relax in the sun before hopping back on the boat for a cruise back to the camp in time for a swim in the fresh water pool.

At Kimberley Coastal Camp, we also offer relaxing and cooling facials in our Land of Poh room using Biomimetic skin care, cooking classes with our Chef and beautiful guided bush walks.  Or you can just simply have a sleep in and get fed all day by our chef while enjoying a book and a cool drink by the pool.

Accommodation is in our beach front bungalows, all with water views – sleeping 2 people King or Twin Share.

With a limit of just 16 guests we are the ideal place to spend your time fishing, on an expedition to view ancient rock art or simply just relax.

    How to get there

Working with you we typically work on finding the quickest way to get you from your door to sitting comfortably on the deck overlooking the waters of the Coral Sea with a cold drink in hand. It is our belief that it’s better to have a couple of extra hours up there than stuck at an airport or another non-descriptive hotel room. The entry points are via Cairns to either Bamaga or Horn Island if flying commercial. Other private charter options are available.

    F.A.Q.S

    Q. Where is the Kimberley Coastal Camp?

    A. Kimberley Coastal Camp is located on the eastern side Admiralty Gulf.

If you are looking at a map of the Kimberley you should first find Kununurra and then follow a North-Northwest line to the Mitchell Plateau. The Mitchell Plateau borders the western side of the Gulf and we are about 10km across the water on the other side.

    Q. Is the water drinkable up there?

AIn Far Northern Australia you need to keep the fluids up. Many will say loads of beer but we recommend water and lots of it. The water up there is great and there is plenty of it. Save the beer for the end of the day.

    Q. Can washing be done?

    A. Yep, each day the staff will wash anything you need washing. Good to know if you are travelling in the helicopter as you want to keep weight down so you can take more fishing gear.

    Q. Talking about fishing gear… do they supply fishing gear?

    A. Sure do! They have no issue with you bringing as much gear as you like. (there are weight limitations with the helicopter) but where there is a will there is a way.

    Q. Is there hot water?

    A. Yep, unlimited gas hot water. When I say unlimited we mean you can have a good shower to wash the day away.

    Q. How do I get there?

    A. Kimberley Coastal Camp does not have direct road access. Most of our guests fly in via light aircraft and then by chopper from the Mitchell Plateau or via float plane. This flight in itself is often one of our guests’ most memorable moments!

The most readily available fixed wing aircraft is a Cessna C210 or a Cessna 206/208 Float Plane (*Float Plane only available from Kununurra) Paspaley Mallard from Darwin or Kununurra is the best option for larger groups.

Jetranger helicopters are most commonly used on the Mitchell Plateau. Transfers from Kununurra, Broome, Darwin and the Mitchell Plateau are based on the number of people travelling in your group. Access by light aircraft/float plane and helicopter is arranged by us. If you are driving up to the Mitchell Plateau, packages include helicopter transfers from the Plateau to land on the beach at KCC or pick up from Walsh Point via boat transfer.
